The Karen Blixen Museum was once the centrepiece of a farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills, owned by Danish author Karen Blixen and her Swedish husband, Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke. Located 10km from Nairobi’s city centre, the farmhouse gained international fame with the release of ‘Out of Africa,’ the Oscar-winning film based on Blixen’s autobiography of the same name.
If you loved ‘Out of Africa,’ you’ll love this museum, set in the farmhouse where Karen Blixen lived between 1914 and 1931 before leaving after a series of personal tragedies. The colonial house has been beautifully preserved and is set in expansive gardens, with the museum shop offering handicrafts, postcards, books, and other Kenyan souvenirs — a must-do for historians and nature lovers alike.
